House white coffee. Plant milks at no extra charge.
A calm Scandi coffee house on Cashel Street — espresso, seasonal lattes, and bagels from 8am. Plant milks on the house. Walk in, sit a while.
Fika takes its name from the Swedish pause — coffee, something baked, and time with people. The room sits at 118 Cashel Street in Christchurch Central: a clean, calm coffee-and-bagel house owned by vegans, with a cabinet that goes well beyond the usual hummus plate.
Guests come for rosemary bagels from 8am — smoked lox, BLT, vegan Reuben and pastrami, pickle and avo — and for a drinks board that runs from a $4.80 long black to seasonal Biscoff, banoffee and strawberry matcha. Plant milks (oat, almond, soy, coconut, macadamia) are poured without an extra charge.
The baking is the other reason people stay: cinnamon scrolls, apricot danish, cheese-garlic and cheese-kimchi scones, ginger kisses, muffins. VG marks the vegan pieces. Weekdays open at 7; weekends at 8. People typically spend twenty minutes to an hour.

“Fantastic café with very friendly staff, great coffee, and excellent food. We had the rosemary bagels (a BLT and a smoked lox), and both were delicious — the rosemary really shone through, the smoked lox was fantastic.”
